Born in 1958, Charlotte Nicolin grew up in Sweden. The artists inherent curiosity and lust for adventure led her to leave her native country for new pastures, and over the course of her career, she has studied art, lived and worked in Sweden, Denmark, the United States, Germany, France and Canada. Her education in art is diversified, as she has studied art history, graphic design, illustration, interior architecture, drawing, painting and varied methods of sculpting.
Although some people see a Scandinavian influence in the bright colors Nicolin uses, each country has brought its own unique influence to the artwork we see today. In the United States, for example, Nicolin was particularly impressed by the pop art movement and acknowledges its colorful influence on her work. Whatever the influence, Nicolin recognizes the need to be challenged in her art and she is continually evolving as an artist. She therefore constantly seeks out new experiences to prevent any artistic complacency. Her paintings and sculpted art furniture are highly solicited.
Since 1982, Nicolin has regularly been exhibiting her artwork in both solo and group exhibitions around the world. In 1998, she started a professional collaboration with Sylvain Gublin, a marketing specialist, which quickly turned into a lasting partnership resulting in the creation of the concept Nicolin & Gublin®.
It is clear from the very first glance at Nicolins work that the artist is quite simply drawn to the world of nature both terrestrial and marine - and has an obvious empathy with her subject matter. Her vision of nature and marine life is truly unique. Her frogs, fish, birds, insects, wild animals, fruits & vegetables, flowers & plants are spectacular! Nicolins recipe for success is simple, yet powerful; she combines her personal view of all elements of the natural world, she adds her own special touch of humor, magic and beauty, and she produces awe-inspiring artwork, which touches hearts in a most personal and sensual way. Nicolins incurable optimism radiates from every piece that leaves her studio.
Events or individuals in her personal life are often a source of inspiration to Nicolin. This adds a lot to the expressiveness and the character of her subjects. Like every true artist, she needs to transport herself into her own inner world to be able to create the vibrant images we see today. Each original oil painting can take a number of months to complete and is only put on display once the artist is completely happy with it.
The artist is currently preparing a childrens book for the whole family whose main character will be a lively and curious fish...
