Giclée (pronounced gee-clay) is french for to spray. In short, it is a process where-by the original image is scanned or rendered digitally. The artist works with the image on the computer screen to get it as accurate as possible. Only Giclées have the widest range of colors to produce rich tones that are not available with any other reproduction process; this can not be achieved using traditional lithography, or even serigraphy. In the Giclée process, a fine stream of vibrant archival pigments more than four million droplets per second is sprayed through most advanced print head ever produced onto canvas or archival art paper, with a 2880 x 1440 dpi (dots per inch) resolution. The effect is similar to an air brush technique, but much finer. In conclusion, the giclée process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction, and renders an amazingly smooth and consistent image.

At Nicolin & Gublin®, all giclées on canvas have the image extended by 1.5" inches on each side, and are stretched over a 1.5" inch thick wooden frame (see photos). The result is a modern 3-dimensional look, with no need for a frame ! Giclées on canvas are printed on a high quality acid free cotton canvas. Fine art papers used are also acid free for archival permanence. The pigments used are very stable and are designed to resist fading. A special UV protectant agent is applied on giclées on canvas at the end of the process, that provides an invisible top coat, which further prolong the giclée life: it will not yellow and will resist cracking. The Giclée process gives a color resistance of about 75 years under average indoor light conditions.
At Nicolin & Gublin®, the giclées on canvas are prepared in several standard heights: 12" (30.5 cm, called baby giclées), 20" (51 cm), 32" (81 cm) and 40" (101.5 cm). Larger sizes are also available for some artwork. Please refer to the Fine art section of our website for more details. Limited edition Giclées on canvas and on art paper are personally proofed, numbered and signed by the artist. They are created individually for you, at the time of order, with the next, lowest available edition number. They are delivered with certificates of authenticity.
